Review from AmazonCom: 5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT INSIGHT...if you believe or not
Always been fascinated with the unexplained...ghosts, ufos, loch Ness monsters etc etc..Tony begins his story just like me as a sort of believer then digs deeper into the world of fakery, hoaxers and scientific study, and ends up involved and embroiled in the industry that basically keeps the monster a reality...a fantastic insight into Tony and Adrian shine's lives covering all the history of the loch from ice ages, to dodgy business deals, the photographs to sonar scans ...also Tony describing the humble beginnings of the loch Ness visitor centre to what it is today - a major tourist attraction...if you believe or if you don't believe the monsters legend will never go away and this is a fantastic book that adds reality to the fantasy...

Review from AmazonCom: 5.0 out of 5 stars A fascinating account - part autobiography, part history of the search for the Loch Ness Monster
I couldn't help thinking that this book could make an enjoyable, and very British, film, given the wonderful, eclectic (and eccentric) cast of characters Tony Harmsworth introduces us to - egotistical businessmen, monks harbouring dark secrets, eccentric inventors - they (and more) are all there. For anyone who grew up in the 1960s/70s (as I did) stories I vaguely remember from the newspapers or black & white TV reports are brought to life, set in context and explained with, as far as I can judge, a great deal of balance.

Review from AmazonCom: 4.0 out of 5 stars The Level Headed Search For Nessie
This book is two-fold in that firstly, it examines in a sensible, measured and scientific way all the evidence for the alleged existence of a monster in the loch, while at the same time charting the author's own biography regarding his life and connection to Loch Ness. It mixes science, research and facts with some interesting, and at times, amusing personal anecdotes. As regards the subject of Nessie, this book cuts through the flannel, fantasy and fakery, to examine the credibility and validity of some of the research conducted over the years and to present a balanced view of the results. Although erring on the side of healthy scepticism, the author does relate his own personal sighting and goes on to study and assess the potential candidates for the identity of any monster. Having recently visited the area ourselves, we could relate to some of the places that the author identifies in his circumnavigational tour of the loch near the start of the book. Recommended.

Review from AmazonCoUk: 5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Read
I have always been interested in the Loch Ness Monster story and found this book, one of the most recent and up to date, to be a great read not only about the history of the monster and an exploration as to what it may be, but an insight into the life of someone closely connected to the monster for many years and the impact it had on his life. If you are interested in the monster, I recommend this book highly!

Review from AmazonCoUk: 5.0 out of 5 stars Fascinating!
Another great book by Tony Harmsworth ("Scotland's bloody history" was superb!) Filled with humorous anegdotes, fun facts, and comprehensive technical details it's THE reference book for all things Nessie.
Each chapter is divided in 3 sections: Monstrous - contains the fun anegdotes relating to the Loch Ness Monster; The Monster - includes scientific evidence and analysis, and My Monster - recounts personal stories of the author's life and how it's been affected by having dealt with this mysterious phenomenon over the years, including the author's involvment in setting up the first ever Loch Ness Exhibition Centre.
Harmsworth's writing is captivating, and his brilliant sense of humor - as witnessed first hand on his tours of the Loch Ness area - makes the stories so fun to read I couldn't put the book down! The photographs and thorough explanations help the reader dig deep into the mystery, and understand the story behind the phenomenon that is the Loch Ness Monster.

Review from AmazonCom: 5.0 out of 5 stars Best read on the subject yet
This book is a very good read. I say it is a must have book for anyone interested in the Loch Ness Monster myth. I enjoyed the way it was written and the amount of detail concerning all the different searches and theories that abound is dealt with extremely well. Once again a great read.

Review from AmazonCom: 5.0 out of 5 stars An essential for the Nessie enthusiast
Tony Harmsworth—like Tim Dinsdale, Ronald Binns, Dick Raynor, Adrian Shine and others—was personally involved in the heady days of Loch Ness monster hunting of the late-20th century. Like the authors just mentioned, Harmsworth’s book is essential for anyone who is interested in this fascinating phenomenon. There are two stories being told here, woven together: We have the human drama, a battle royale of believers and backers, scientists and charlatans, promotors and the self-deluded, all playing out on the shores and the depths of the mysterious black loch. This alternates with more technical and critical discussion of the controversial evidence. I was especially interested in infamous photos taken by the Academy of Applied Sciences in the 1970s. But I learned about aspects of the human drama I have found nowhere else, like the tragic story of the ingenious “Nessie Hunt,” a lavish board game developed by Harmsworth. Despite its potential, and due to various business and financial difficulties, it was never mass-marketed. What I found most fascinating were the discussions and arguments between the monster hunters. It reveals that they were never a monolithic or dogmatic group. Some were credulous, but others were skeptical, even when they believed they would find unknown animals in the loch. These behind-the-scenes conversations are small revelations, found nowhere else in the Nessie literature.
